Pine Ridge Farm originally purchased bred cows with heifers at their side from Oak Hill Farm, Farmville, VA. In addition to this original purchase, we have obtained females from Springwood, Knoll Crest, Shelton Angus and Quaker Hill Farms. Our herd bulls were purchased from Locust Level Farm.
We artificially inseminate our females, using semen from ABS Global, Select Sires and Accelerated Genetics. Semen is selected for calving ease, growth potential and carcass EPD's. In 2009, the American Angus Association awarded one of our cows, Pine Ridge Ideal Miss 601N, Pathfinder status for producing three calves who have had an average weaning weight ratio of 105.
Our animals are known for their docile temperaments. We were the breeders of a heifer who won junior calf championship at the Virginia Junior Angus Breeder's show in July 2007. Some of our heifers have also been sold internationally.
Bull calves are entered into performance tested programs conducted by the Virginia Beef Cattle Improvement Association (VA BCIA) and sold at the completion of the test period at the test facilities at Culpeper, VA.
A 40-60 calving period takes place each fall. |
