Pine Ridge Farm, Inc. is on 380 acres of pasture, hay and timber land. The farm is owned and operated by Jim and Ellie Arroyo. We are a registered black Angus cow/calf producer. We also harvest our own hay for our cattle.
We are members of the American Angus Association, Virginia Angus Association, Southside Angus Association, Buckingham Cattlemen’s Association and the Virginia Beef Cattle Improvement Association.
Pine Ridge Farm follows National Resource Conservation Service practices. Cattle are fenced out of all surface water on the farm. Fresh water is provided for the cattle by three drilled wells on the farm and the water is distributed to the pastures by 9 sets of 4-hole watering systems. Rotational grazing is implemented to manage our forage production and a buffer area has been established along one stream to filter pasture run off. The farm was awarded the 2008 Virginia Clean Water Farm Award sponsored by the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation and the 2008 Chowan Basin Grand Award. The farm was recognized for its efforts in following nutrient management plan objectives and implementing best management practices to protect the Commonwealth’s soil and water.
A nutrient management plan based on soil test results for our pastures and hay land is followed. The plan was developed and signed by a nutrient management planner and certified by the Commonwealth of Virginia Nutrient Management Program.
We follow a very stringent health program and maintain a health record of each animal while on the farm. Pine Ridge Farm maintains a Johne’s Management Level herd.
